
CITIZENSHIP ACQUISITION PROCEDURES
It is possible to acquire Turkish citizenship at birth or later.
I. ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP BY BIRTH
A child born to a Turkish citizen mother or father inside or outside Turkey is a Turkish citizen. According to this provision, the transition to Turkish citizenship is based on lineage.
II. AFTER ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP
A. ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP BY DECISION OF THE AUTHORIZED AUTHORITY
1. ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP BY GENERAL METHOD (WITH LONG-TERM RESIDENCY)
For this, besides the other conditions required by the law, he/she must have stayed in Turkey for five years without interruption.
If the foreigner is not in a situation that will pose an obstacle in terms of national security and public order, it is possible to acquire Turkish citizenship by an exceptional way. In order to acquire Turkish citizenship by investment:
a) Foreigners determined by the Ministry of Industry and Technology to have made a fixed capital investment of at least 500,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currency or equivalent in Turkish Lira.
b) Transfer and abandonment of the contract, which is drawn up by the notary public, that the real estate has been purchased or that a condominium or floor servitude has been established or that the sale of the immovable has been promised, provided that it is not sold for three years in the land registry, for a property worth at least 400,000 US Dollars or its equivalent in foreign currency or Turkish Lira. Foreigners determined by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization that they have been annotated in the land registry with a commitment not to do so.
c) Foreigners determined by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services to employ at least 50 people.
ç) Foreigners who are determined by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency to have deposited at least 500,000 US Dollars or equivalent foreign currency or Turkish Lira deposits in banks operating in Turkey for three years.
d) Foreigners determined by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to have purchased government debt instruments worth at least 500,000 US Dollars or equivalent in foreign currency or Turkish Lira for three years.
e) Foreigners, determined by the Capital Markets Board, to have purchased real estate investment fund participation shares or venture capital investment fund participation shares in the amount of at least 500,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currency or Turkish lira, on the condition that they hold at least three years.
3. ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP BY MARRIAGE
According to Article 16 of the Turkish Citizenship Law; “Marriage with a Turkish citizen does not directly grant Turkish citizenship. However, foreigners who have been married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years and whose marriage continues can apply to acquire Turkish citizenship.
4 ACQUISITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP BY ADOPTION
According to Article 17 of the Turkish Citizenship Law; “A minor who is adopted by a Turkish citizen can acquire Turkish citizenship as of the date of the decision, provided that he does not have a situation that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order.” According to this article, in order for the foreigner to acquire Turkish citizenship through adoption; The person should not be a mature person and should not have a situation that constitutes an obstacle in terms of national security and public order.
